EKII grant for buying an electric car from 2026
From May 2026 to 31 December 2029, permanent residents of Latvia can apply for state support to buy environmentally friendly vehicles.
Under the support programme, TC Motors offers new and used cars and will help you prepare the documents and complete your EKII application.

Eligibility criteria for buying a new factory-built electric car
- the only source of mechanical propulsion is energy from electricity stored in the vehicle;
- GHG emissions = 0 g CO2/km;
- urban range between full charges of at least 150 km;
- top speed of at least 90 km/h;
- used for less than 6 months or driven less than 6 000 kilometres;
- the price of the base version does not exceed 45 000 € excl. VAT, or 60 000 € excl. VAT for a vehicle with at least 6 seats.
Eligibility criteria for buying a used factory-built electric car
- the only source of mechanical propulsion is energy from electricity stored in the vehicle;
- GHG emissions = 0 g CO2/km;
- urban range between full charges of at least 150 km;
- top speed of at least 90 km/h;
- the date of first registration is no more than 7 years before the support is received;
- the mileage at the time of sale is no more than 150 000 km;
- it has not been registered in Latvia for longer than 12 months;
- the price of the base version does not exceed 45 000 € excl. VAT, or 60 000 € excl. VAT for a vehicle with at least 6 seats.
Scrapping of an M1 and N1 category vehicle owned by the support recipient
- the vehicle has been used on the road for at least the last year and has a valid roadworthiness certificate;
- the vehicle is fitted with any type of internal combustion engine;
- the vehicle has been registered in the Republic of Latvia for at least the last year;
- it has been registered in the support recipient's name for at least the last 3 months;
- the vehicle has covered at least 5000 km per year between its last two roadworthiness tests;
- the vehicle has been handed over to a scrapping facility.
Donation free of charge of an M1 and N1 category vehicle owned by the support recipient to the Armed Forces of Ukraine
- the vehicle is fitted with an internal combustion engine — petrol, diesel or gas;
- the vehicle is registered in Latvia;
- the vehicle is handed over free of charge to the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
- the purpose of the donation is to provide direct support to the defence of Ukraine;
- at the time of handover, the car must have a valid roadworthiness test or a temporary permit to be used on the road;
- a CSDD document on the re-registration of the vehicle to the supported non-governmental organisation is required;
- a copy of the transit number plate card is required;
- a copy of the Ukrainian customs declaration for the import of the vehicle into Ukraine is required.
Important to remember
Car price cap to qualify for support
Funding is available if the electric car is bought for up to 45 000 € excl. VAT in the base version.
If the vehicle has at least six seats, the price cap is up to 60 000 € excl. VAT in the base version.
The support amounts are set in accordance with Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 238.

Conditions for receiving support
Who can receive state support?
The EKII grant programme is intended for permanent residents of Latvia who want to switch to an environmentally friendly vehicle.
Support is available
If you meet one of the statuses below and none of the exclusion conditions apply.
Permanent residents of Latvia with a valid personal identity number and a registered address in Latvia.
Increased support of up to 6 750 €, plus 1 000 € for each child, starting with the fourth.
Exclusion conditions
Cabinet of Ministers Regulation No. 238 contains several conditions that prevent you from applying for support:
Except where an extension of the payment deadline has been granted.
The applicant is subject to insolvency or legal protection proceedings.
The applicant is registered as a debtor in the register of applicants and debtors of the Maintenance Guarantee Fund Administration.
The applicant has an unspent conviction for fraud, financial and tax crimes, corruption, money laundering or terrorist financing.
International or national sanctions have been imposed on the applicant.
